The folks here at Blaine Community Theater spend a lot of time tossing around ideas about what would be fun and engaging ideas for the community, and our list is getting pretty long! So we decided that it was time to run these options past the community itself and see what passes muster!

ACTING ISN’T JUST FOR STAGE AND SCREEN

Blaine Community Theater is extremely lucky to be able to offer improv classes by the very talented and exceptionally experienced Jennie and Kevin Olsen Six.

Ever wanted to give acting a try but were too afraid of competitive auditions? Used to act in your youth and looking for a way to get back into the groove? Maybe you just want to learn how to be a better verbal communicator or have more confidence when speaking with strangers? Then improv is a great place to start!

This 8-week class will guide participants through the basics of acting and improv comedy in a fun, interactive and supportive class for all levels of ex

perience. If you’ve ever wanted to try acting or improv, ease your way back into performing or improve your public speaking skills you will have fun in this class. Ages 16 and up.

About Your Instructors: Jennie Olson Six has recently relocated back to the PNW after spending the last 20 years in Southern California. She is an actor, writer, director and improvisor and loves to share her talents both on and off the camera and stage. Kevin Olson Six is an actor, director, writer and improvisor who has been performing for over 35 years in San Diego. He moved to the PNW and has fallen in love with the woods, coffee and people. This might seem like a weird thing to just randomly post, but recently someone sent a question to the website asking about wheelchair accessibility. Unfortunately the return email address I had for them bounced back, so I wasn’t able to give them the answer they needed, so I decided to just post that information here, in the hopes that they and anyone else who had the same question could get the answer they need.

Yes, the Blaine High School Orange & Black Box Theater IS wheelchair accessible. The theater features modular seating and we can easily remove seats from the front row to accommodate wheelchaired patrons. We do advise anyone with mobility issues to try to show up a bit early (the lobby opens one hour before showtime, and the theater 30 minutes before showtime), as the parking lot nearest to the theater entrance is small,  and, unfortunately, is where a lot of the construction equipment for the school’s ongoing renovations gets left, so space is limited and fills up fast.

Love them or hate them, the onslaught of movies by the…*ahem* HOLIDAY Channel every December has become as much of a Christmas tradition as caroling and egg nog (in that many more people enjoy them than will ever admit to it). And whatever your opinion of such movies may be, you’ll find a lot to like in The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon, a holiday dinner sized serving of six-Christmas movie style storylines all slapped on top of each other to create a hilarious live theater event.

All the storylines you know are here: the innkeeper going out of business, the secret prince, the reluctant Santa, the incognito movie star, the lonely woodsman, the…uh…OTHER secret prince. They’re all here live on stage, and you can spend an evening out laughing your head off while still experiencing the comfort of sitting in front of your TV with a Snuggie and a cup of cocoa to keep you warm.

The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon is showing at Blaine High School’s “Orange & Black Box” Theater, located on the south end of the new high school buildings, behind the Blaine High football field. Showtimes are 7:00 PM on December 13, 14, 20 & 21, and at 2:00 PM on December 15 & 22. Tickets are $15, or $13 for seniors and students.

ALL THE WORLD’S A STAGE…

One of theater’s most beloved shows by both audiences and actors alike, “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)”, written by Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield, is a whirlwind comedic sprint through all 37 of Shakespeare’s plays. Starring Alex Gehringer, Danielle Cheyenne Palmer, and Rossner Randolph, and directed by Nick McDonald, it promises to shake the dust and cobwebs off of The Bard’s works and change the way you look at theater.

“The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)” will run August 9, 10, 16, & 17th at 7:00 PM and August 11 & 18 at 2:00 PM in Blaine High School’s Black Box Theater. Tickets are $15, $13 for students and seniors, and will be the first production to qualify for our “Repeat Offender” program. Bring back a ticket from an earlier performance, and see the show again for a Repeat Offender price of only $5! Tickets sold at the door, payable by cash, check or card.

If you’re unfamiliar with the location of Blaine High School’s black box theater, please  refer to the graphic below. There is still ongoing construction at Blaine High School, so we recommend parking in the main parking lot, located in the yellow square below (accessed from Boblett St.). Follow the sidewalks on the pink path to the theater, the location of the pink square. Seating for the show will begin a half-hour before show time.
